This Sapa group tour starts every Saturday night from Hanoi because Bac Ha market is on Sunday only, and you visit this market on the arrival morning.

Bac Ha Sunday market tour in Lao Cai province

Bac Ha Sunday market was rediscovered in 1991 by the French tourists when they came back to Vietnam after the country re-opened to the world. This is the biggest market in & around Sapa gathering only once a week.

Tour itinerary

DAY 1 (Sunday) SAPA – BAC HA MARKET TOUR – TREKKING TO BAN PHO – SAPA (L,D)

Located at 110km from Sapa, Bac Ha mountain town is well-known by travelers with the most colorful market of the hill tribes in the North of Vietnam. This every-Sunday-market attended by at least 8 ethnic groups and last from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. It is also chance for tourists to discover the H’mong King’s palace (old building built by the French & Chinese).

In the afternoon, we go for a light trek to visit Ban Pho, the village is home to flower H’mong minority. We are invited to enter several local houses to have some green tea, corn wine, listen to the host talking about their family, talk to them… and then enjoy landscapes on a roundabout way to Bac Ha for get back to Lao Cai to continue up to Sapa. Check in the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Sapa.

DAY 2 Y LINH HO – LAO CHAI – TA VAN VILLAGE – LAO CAI – HANOI (B,L,D)

6km of walking down to the south east of Sapa along the side of Muong Hoa valley to Y Linh Ho village of the Black H’mong. A 2km-trekking down to Lao Chai village, through terraced rice fields to Ta Van village of the Dzay minority people. Lunch at a local family, it gives you a worth chance for you to learn about the local house architecture which is full of their daily life styles and exclusive custom. Enjoy the landscape on the way. Car to return to Sapa for dinner.
Shuttle bus to Lao Cai Train Station or to Hanoi (booked by guestselves).

Muong Hoa valley during harvest time

On Day 2, you’ll trek through hilltribe villages in Muong Hoa valley. Muong Hoa valley contains dozens of hilltribe villages surrounded by Fansipan mountain range. Don’t miss the chance to intermingle with hilltribe people during trekking, tasting their foods and knowing more about stitl-houses and terraced rice fields “the masterpiece of Hmong people”.

Don’t confuse between Sapa and Lao Cai. Lao Cai is a city, and Sapa is a town. Both belong to Lao Cai province, Northwest of Vietnam. And Lao Cai Train station (in Lao Cai city, 38km from Sapa town) is end point of all trains from Hanoi. The trains come to Lao Cai and from Sapa, you take a bus transfer to Sapa nearby.

Bac Ha is 80km from Lao Cai and 110km from Sapa, which costs you 2-hour-driving.
